Pilot Recounts How Kwam 1 Delayed Flight, Assaulted Crew

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

CAPTAIN Ranti Ogoyi, pilot-in-command of ValueJet’s Embraer CRJ-900 Flight VK201 from Abuja to Lagos, has recounted a disruptive incident involving Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, that occurred on board the airline’s early morning service.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and made available to Stonix News, Captain Ogoyi detailed the events that led to the musician being denied boarding and the subsequent delay of the flight.

“Boarding commenced as scheduled at 8:10 a.m.,” she said. “Between 8:15 and 8:20 a.m., Mr. Ayinde arrived at the foot of the aircraft holding a gold flask of unknown contents. Ground personnel requested, in line with standard procedure, to verify its content, but he refused.”

According to her, the ground staff suspected the flask contained alcohol, strictly prohibited on Nigerian domestic flights, but Ayinde reportedly resisted inspection, allegedly saying: “Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”

Captain Ogoyi noted that the musician became confrontational, prompting her to step out of the cockpit to defuse the situation.

“Without warning, he opened the flask and poured its contents on me, security personnel, and some nearby passengers,” she alleged.

The incident drew immediate response from airport security, who intervened and allowed other passengers to board. The airline’s Head of Security reportedly recommended that K1 should not be allowed on the flight due to his unruly conduct.

“I supported the decision, prioritising the safety of my passengers and crew,” Ogoyi said.

Despite shutting the aircraft doors, the singer allegedly lingered near the plane, obstructing its movement. “I made a public announcement to inform passengers of the delay while security worked to clear the area. Once he was removed, we departed at approximately 8:50 a.m.”

Captain Ogoyi described the ordeal as “a major disruption” that posed “serious safety risks to passengers, crew, and aircraft operations.”
