NNPC Restores Escravos–Lagos Pipeline After December Blast, Resumes Full Operations

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced the full restoration of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), which was shut down following an unexpected explosion on 10 December 2025.

In a statement issued by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Andy Odeh, NNPC said the pipeline has been successfully repaired and is now operating at normal capacity.

According to the national oil company, emergency response protocols were immediately activated upon detection of the incident.

Cross-functional teams were mobilised and worked in close coordination with regulatory authorities, security agencies and host communities to address the situation.

The affected section of the pipeline was promptly isolated, repaired and subjected to rigorous pressure testing before being safely returned to service within a notably short period.

Mr Odeh described the swift recovery as a reflection of NNPC’s resilience, operational excellence and firm commitment to national energy security.

He noted that the achievement was the result of strong collaboration among host communities, regulators, security agencies, staff and technical partners.

NNPC Ltd emphasised that safety and environmental protection were prioritised throughout the repair process, adding that there were no adverse effects on nearby communities or the surrounding ecosystem.

The company said all repair works were carried out in line with the highest industry standards, reinforcing its dedication to responsible asset management and sustainable development.

Looking ahead, NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection through strict monitoring and environmentally friendly practices, sustained engagement with host communities, and the maintenance of asset integrity to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted energy supply.

The statement further expressed appreciation to field technicians, community leaders and stakeholders for their support, while thanking the public for its continued trust.

“Together, we are not just fixing pipelines; we are powering Nigeria’s progress and securing a brighter future for all,” the statement added.
