PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged to install 5,000 surveillance cameras across Plateau State as part of a sweeping new security drive aimed at ending the wave of deadly attacks in the region.
Speaking on Thursday during a condolence visit at the departure hall of Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces expressed deep conviction that the deployment of CCTV technology would significantly bolster the state’s security network.
“We are going to install a network of cameras that will help security agencies to identify the troublemakers. We have more than 5,000 to install very soon,” President Tinubu assured.
His visit followed the horrific Palm Sunday attack on 29th March 2026, when gunmen stormed the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, killing 28 people and leaving many others injured.
The President vowed that such tragic incidents would not be allowed to repeat themselves. “I promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” he said.
Addressing grieving families, President Tinubu paused to speak directly to Mrs Rhoda Ayuba, who lost her son, the late Promise Ayuba. “I saw in the video how you held your son. No amount of money would bring him back, but as government, we will do our best to comfort the families of the victims,” he said.
Reflecting on past failures, the President noted: “Apart from the experiences of the past, why have they not brought a source of lessons for us? I have listened to Jang, I have listened to Nentawe, I have listened to the Governor. But you and I were elected on a promise to bring peace and prosperity, not to confront and create widows and widowers.

“We want to break the shackles of violence, hopelessness, poverty and segregation to improve the standard of living of the masses.”
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, thanked the President for his solidarity. “We do not underestimate the importance of this stopover. To us, it is encouragement… Keeping to your word that you will come today, for me, is quite honourable,” Mutfwang said.
The Federal Government has yet to announce a specific timeline for the camera installation, but President Tinubu assured that work would begin shortly.
