Again, Zimbabwe Will Play WC Qualifiers Home Games Away

Micheal Chukwuebuka, Reporting

ACCORDING to multiple sources, the Warriors of Zimbabwe are set to play the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in June outside the country once again.

Stonix News reports that the country’s main stadiums are still to be renovated to meet the minimum international standards required by the Confederation of African Football.

Lincoln Mutasa, ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairperson, told the newsmen on the sidelines of the nationwide stakeholder engagements that his committee have already started looking for the alternative venue to host Lesotho in early June.

“We are in a crisis because there is little time left between now and early June when we play Lesotho.

“We have already started the process of looking for an alternative venue in the neighbouring countries.

“We will notify the nation once we are done with the process,” Mutasa said.

The stadium crisis if not resolved, will also affect the countries two representatives in the CAF countries competitions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Dynamos.

Recall that last year, Zimbabwe were forced to host Nigeria at Huye stadium in Rwanda.

Sports minister Kirsty Coventry was quoted in the media early this year saying that the National Sports stadium will be ready to host international matches but reality on ground is suggesting that there are still lots of work that need to be done.
