Ahead Of International Friendlies, Super Eagles Defender Sustains Injury

Michael Chukwuebuka, Reporting

SUPER Eagles and FC Porto’s defender, Zaidu Sanusi Maru, has sustained an injury during their UEFA Champions League final group stage game against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, 1st of November.

The Nigerian International was in the starting-11 for the Portuguese league champions, FC Porto, at home to Spanish side, Atletico Madrid, but was subbed off in the 53rd minutes of the encounter with the team’s second choice Brazilian defender, Wendell as replacement.

In preparation for the Super Eagles friendlies against Costa Rica and Portugal later this month, Zaidu is reportedly among players expected to be invited.

Stonix News recalled that two early goals from Taremi and Estaquo helped the home side secure a 2 goals victory for the home side before half-time, but a bizarre last minute own-goal from FC Porto’s defender, Marcano, reduced the tally for Atletico Madrid.

That crucial win saw the Portuguese club through to the knockout stages; finishing top of the table in the group stage with 12 points, while Belgian side, Club Brugge finished second with 10 points.
