By AN articulated truck has rammed no fewer than 14 worshippers in a Jumaat Service to death on Friday in Kano, Nigeria.
The accident occurred at Imawa town, Kura Local Government Area on Kano-Kaduna highway shortly after Friday prayer around 13.50p.m.
The driver of the articulated truck with the Registration Number MKA 537XN was headed from Kaduna when it lost control and rammed the worshippers.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of the 14 worshippers.
A statement signed by the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Kano Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, said nine of the deceased were buried Friday afternoon.
According to him, those injured are receiving treatment at a hospital.
The statement said the driver of the trailer fled the scene after the incident.
Labaran said the FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, upon receiving a distress call, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims.
The statement said the Sector Commander, Ibrahim Abdullahi, condoled the families of the deceased and emphasised the FRSC’s commitment to road safety.
He, in the statement, urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
