Auxilliary Escapes, As Police Arrest 78, Recover Cache Of Arms, Charms, Money In Ibadan

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

OPERATIVES of the Oyo State Police Command have foiled an impending mayhem and arrested 78 raucous members of the Park Management System (PMS) led by Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi also known as Auxillary in Ibadan, the state capital.

Among the 78 suspects are 49 males and 29 females cooling their feet in custody of the police.

Recovered from the hoodlums were about 33 assorted firearms, 724 cartridges, assorted charms, 33 Mobile Phones, and N3,450,000 cash where they had lodged to allegedly perpetrate violence against public peace.

Recall that Auxilliary was relieved from his job as the leader of PMS by Governor Seyi Makinde shortly after his second term inauguration on Monday, a decision said to have infuriated him.

Angry that he had been booted out, he allegedly organised his PSM members to unleash terror on members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

Directed to secure the state from the hoodlums, the Police Commissioner, Adebowale Williams, while addressing journalists during the parade of the suspects in Ibadan on Tuesday, said his boys had to swiftly foil an attempt at creating widespread carnage and civil disturbance in the state.

He said his men had to carry out a raid on the residence of the former PMS leader around Diamond Hotel, Alakia-Isebo, under Egbeda Local Government Area where the items were recovered.

He said the suspected hoodlums had already perfected plans to unleash mayhem at the early hours of Tuesday at major parts of Ibadan metropolis before police operatives swooped on them.

CP Adebowale said some of the sophisticated firearms were recovered inside the hotel rooms and in the trunk compartment of parked vehicles within the hotel where they had lodged to perfect condition their plans.

While the chief suspect, Auxilliary, escaped, one of his boys, who allegedly engaged the police in a shootout, met his Waterloo.

The police boss further noted that the same group was alleged to be responsible for the attack on 14 members of RTEAN along Agodi axis under Ibadan North-East LGA enroute the venue the inaugural celebrations held.

Meanwhile, CP Adebowale has reiterated the command’s unwavering commitments towards tackling criminal rascality, hooliganism and blatant disregard for the rule of law.

He, therefore, enjoined residents of the state to cooperate with the Police Command by providing viable and verifiable information to help apprehend fleeing Auxilliary.

“Moving forward, residents shall witness high octane patrols, coordinated stop and Search along designate points across the nook and cranny of the State.

“Also, the CP has directed Area Commanders to personally lead convoy patrols and rings of supervision of Police operatives within their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“This far, the location and environs is actively monitored with ample deployment of Police Operatives to boost the confidence of residents against any fear of molestation or harassment as they go about their legitimate businesses,” the police boss noted.
