A bloody clash between suspected herders and local fishermen in Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has left one person dead.
A few others are said to have sustained one minor injury or the other and now receiving treatment at medical facilities.
Stonix News gathered that the incident occurred around 12 noon of Monday, February 5th, 2024,. during which one Mr. Ofe Ekevwerho from Uwheru community passed due to multiple gunshot wounds sustained.
One Mr. Roland was also reported to have suffered some serious gunshot injuries during the clash and is among the wounded receiving treatment at hospitals in Ughelli town.
Miffed by the incident, folks from Uwheru and Unenurhie communities were said to have barricaded the East West road to register their grievances.
While demanding justice for the deceased and the wounded, the villagers are calling on the state and federal governments to intervene in the incessant clashes between the herdsmen and the local residents.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident but couldn’t give details as police operatives were allegedly denied access to Uwherun community.
