(COSTLY ERROR) See How Police Van In Hot Pursuit Of A ‘Yahoo Boy’ Killed Policeman On Bike In Ekiti

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

A costly error has occurred in Ekiti as a police patrol van, allegedly chasing a suspected Yahoo Boy, crushed a fellow policeman riding on a motorcycle to death.

The tragedy happened late Tuesday along Federal Polytechnic Ado/Ijan Road, Ado Ekiti.

The victim, simply identified as Supol Ayeni, was crushed to death by a patrol van belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) unit of the Ekiti State Police Command.

The RRS operatives reportedly drove recklessly while chasing suspected internet frauds popularly known as Yahoo Boys.

In the process, their patrol van knocked down their colleague who was said to be on a motorcycle.

A source said the victim, Supol Ayeni, said to be attached to Odo Ado Police Station, died on the spot.

“He actually came home to eat; his wife has a shop around Aba Ebira in the Polytechnic Community.

“There is this bad spot along the road, beside the Silo, so the deceased came to his wife’s shop to eat.

“He came with one of his friend’s motorcycle. He was working at Odo Ado which is not that far from here.

“The RRS operatives were in two Hilux vehicles chasing a Benz. I don’t know where they were chasing the guys from.

“As they were about to overtake the Benz, the deceased, who is popularly known as Baba Ada, was coming from the other side and one of the vehicles hit him.

“He died immediately,” the source narrated.

Although the police authorities in Ekiti were yet to make an official statement on the incident, a colleague of the deceased, who reportedly confirmed the incident, disclosed that the RRS operatives, who crushed Mr Ayeni to death, have been identified and detained at the state police headquarters.

“Yes, Supol Ayeni is dead. He was hit by RRS van. I’m still confused my brother; this was someone I saw earlier today,” he told an online medium.
