Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting
MORE woes appear betiding the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as a strong chieftain and former Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has resigned from the party.
Stonix News reports that the party, in last weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections, suffered some fatal injuries as the party did only lose the presidential election, but lost two Senatorial districts and Constituencies other parties.
The loss was most debilitating given the fact that governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, was the defeated vice presidential running mate who’s been under fire for allegedly sponsoring the PDP Presidential Campaign through borrowed loans.
Before his resignation, fleeing Macaulay is (was) the Director-General of Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA).
His resignation on Saturday as a member of the party at a time the party is in life-support following its loss at the last weekend’s presidential election, is seen as further depleting the party.
Macaulay’s resignation is coming barely a week to the Governorship and House of Assembly elections, via which the party find some breath to survive if it comes tops in the poll.
His resignation was disclosed in a letter addressed to the Chairman, PDP Ward 5, Owhelegbo, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Saturday.
The veteran journalist said his resignation from the PDP was with immediate effect, citing some misdemeanors he has been enduring over time.
“The decision to resign my membership of the PDP is based on the overt exhibition of impunity, blackmail, falsehood and disregard for party rules by the leadership.
“Over the past years, I painfully endured the arrogance and misdemeanors of the party leadership and actually appealed for a change to no avail.
“Thus, I am left with no choice, but to bow out of the party,” he noted.
As of the time of filing the report, it could not be ascertained if he had also resigned his DGship of WUEDA.
