A drunk driver has been accused of fatally hitting a pedestrian whom he believed was an animal.
According to reports, the Dallas-area driver told police officers who discovered a body in his passenger seat that he believed he had hit an animal.
About 11:15 p.m. on Saturday in a White Settlement restaurant parking lot, the 31-year-old ex-convict Nestor Joel Lujan Flores’ was found in his extensive damaged vehicle by the police.
In 2021, Lujan Flores was convicted of driving while intoxicated in nearby Collin County and has, yet again, been accused of intoxication manslaughter.
According to police in White Settlement, detectives believe the impact was so severe that the pedestrian was thrown inside the vehicle through the windshield and came to rest on the passenger seat.
A citizen called the attention of an officer about the damaged vehicle, and on arrival, the officer noticed what appeared to be a human body with no signs of life in the front passenger seat.
“He believed he had struck an animal in Dallas and continued driving to this parking lot.
“The driver never notified police or fire emergency responders of this incident.
“Human remains were located near the roadway that may possibly match the victim’s body that was recovered from inside the vehicle in the restaurant parking lot,” police said.
As of the time of filing this report, Lujan Flores remained in White Settlement jail; it was not clear if he had retained an attorney.
