ONE of the facilitators of the Dafinone Agriculture and Food Security Training and Empowerment Programme, Adejoke Raheem, has urged Deltans to encourage youths to venture into farming.
She made this call during her presentation on the importance of maize cultivation on the first day of the two-day training programme, an initiative led by the Dafinone Food Security Project for farmers in Delta Central Senatorial District.

The training, which began on Thursday, is scheduled to conclude on Friday, 6th and 7th March, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Effurun, Delta State.
Raheem urged participants not only to increase maize production but also to explore opportunities for monetising it.
“We should start encouraging our youths to go into farming,” she said.
She provided a step-by-step guide on maize cultivation and methods for controlling pests in maize production.

In a speech presented by the Head of Project on behalf of Senator Ede Dafinone, Olorogun Ejemudiaro Salubi stated that the programme aims to enhance agricultural practices and promote food security in Delta Central Senatorial District.
She noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, which highlights agriculture as a key driver of the nation’s economy.
“The agenda set forth by our President underscores the critical role of agriculture as a key driver in our nation’s economy.
“It is a recognition that agriculture not only enhances food security but also creates jobs, stimulates growth, and empowers communities.
“Senator Ede Dafinone is fully committed to harnessing this potential to tackle the challenges faced by our women and youth.
“By empowering these vital demographics with the skills and resources they need, we can drive meaningful change in our communities and ensure a brighter future for all.

“These training and empowerment schemes were introduced by the Office of Senator Ede Dafinone (OSED) last year as part of our constituency capital projects.
“We are implementing these initiatives in collaboration with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), principally the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and other agencies under the ministry.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to providing you with the support and resources necessary to thrive in the agricultural sector,” the statement read in part.
The first day of the training featured six facilitators who trained participants from different communities in Delta Central on the cultivation and pest resistance of pepper, groundnut, maize, okra, and tomatoes.
A facilitator and master trainer from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Sunday Obasi, trained participants on how to produce organic pesticides to combat pests in tomato farming and cultivation.
Other facilitators included master trainers from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security: Mrs Adeshola, Mrs Olabisi Oladele, Ogechi Happiness Ewa, and Iboroma Gloria Owunari.
