There’s tension across Kaduna State as over 100,000 birds in poultry farms are at the risk of contracting the lethal avian influenza commonly known as Bird Flu.
Stonix News reliably gathered that the disease has invaded no fewer than three Local government areas of the state.
Confirming the development, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Ibrahim Hussaini, during a stakeholders’ meeting with poultry farmers association, said the disease was threatening an estimated population of 107, 807 birds in farms in three local government areas of the state.
He said the affected farms were located in Chikun, Igabi and Lere local government areas of the state.
The Director Veterinary and Livestock Services, Zakariya Pakachi, who spoke on behalf of the commissioner, said tests were conducted by the National Research Veterinary Institute and were positive to highly pathogenic level.
He said the three affected farms have been depopulated and decontaminated while result from the fourth farm was being awaited.
