For Anioma’s Sake, Senator Ned Nwoko Declares For APC

SENATOR representing Delta North Senatorial District at Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, Ned Nwoko, has made a passionate call to the people of Anioma and Delta North, vowing to fight for their development and rightful place in governance.

Speaking in respect of his official defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senator who ditched his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a week ago, declared, “Anioma has waited long enough. We have contributed immensely to Delta State and Nigeria, yet when it is time for development, all we receive are empty promises and excuses.”

Nwoko highlighted key neglected projects, including the stepping down of power from Okpai, the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, and major road constructions like Asaba-Ugbolu-Illah Road and Kwale-Ogume-Amai-Obiaruku Road. He also called for a Delta State Airline and a statewide rail network to boost the local economy.

The senator expressed frustration over the state government’s refusal to act on his recommendations. “The Governor personally asked me to submit names for commissioners—I did. None were appointed,” he revealed. “I can no longer be part of this failed system.”

Despite these setbacks, Nwoko assured his constituents that he has remained committed to their welfare. “In under two years, I have sponsored 26 bills and 22 motions,” he said, noting his push for the creation of Anioma State and the upgrade of the College of Education (Technical) Asaba into a Federal University of Technology.

Beyond legislation, he has secured numerous projects for Delta North, including:

  • Road rehabilitation and electrification projects
  • Boreholes for clean water
  • Youth and women empowerment schemes
  • Business grants and agricultural support
  • Medical outreach and security improvements

Through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), he has facilitated key infrastructure works, such as the rehabilitation of Agbor/Abraka/Eku Road, construction of Abbi Road, and solar streetlight installations in multiple communities.

Nwoko also secured major projects under the 2024 Appropriation Bill, with several already completed, including:

  • Solar streetlights in Kwale, Asaba, and Idumuje-Ugboko
  • Solar-powered boreholes in Umunede and Idumuje-Ugboko
  • Medical equipment for healthcare centres across Delta North
  • Fencing and rehabilitation of Idumuje-Ugboko police station
  • Construction of a mini stadium in Issele-Uku

Declaring his next political move, Nwoko announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating, “Today, I will join Mr. President in the APC, where development is not just a promise, but a commitment.”

He assured his people that this move would secure Anioma’s future, saying, “Anioma must rise. Anioma will rise. And together, we will claim our rightful place!”
