Hindu Pilgrims Bathe In Sacred Waters At Kumbh Mela Festival

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

A large crowds of Hindu pilgrims in India bathed in sacred waters as the Kumbh Mela festival opened.

According to multiple sources, organisers are expecting 400 million people, the world’s largest gathering of humanity, to assemble over six weeks.

Stonix News reports that the millennia-old festival, a show of religious piety and ritual bathing, and a logistical challenge of staggering proportions, is held at the site where the Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers meet.

The Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years, with smaller festivals held in intervening years.

It is mainly held at Prayagraj or at three other riverside pilgrimage sites of Nashik, Ujjain and Haridwar.
