NGOR OKPALA, Imo State – Tension has gripped residents of Imo State following a deadly attack along the ever-busy Aba-Owerri Road on Tuesday evening, May 6.
At about 6:30 p.m., suspected armed herdsmen reportedly launched a brazen assault in the Ngor Okpala axis, resulting in the killing of a Hilux driver and the abduction of no fewer than 26 people.
Eyewitnesses say the assailants ambushed vehicles in motion, including a bus belonging to God is Good Motors (GIGM), abducting the driver and all 12 passengers on board.
In a separate incident, an Akwa Ibom Transport Company bus was also hijacked, with a female student of the University of Uyo among those taken.
The attack, which has once again exposed the fragile security situation along Ngor Okpala Road, triggered panic across the area as motorists abandoned the highway, and commercial activities ground to a halt.
Local vigilante groups and community leaders have raised the alarm over the increasing presence of suspected herdsmen along the Aba-Owerri road, a known flashpoint for past abductions and robberies.
