IBBUL confirms Ogungbe, four others as professors

MINNA: Dr. Ebenezer Oluwaseun Ogungbe of the Department of English Language and four others have been confirmed as professors in a recent promotion exercise by the Council of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL), Lapai, Niger State.

The four others, who also benefitted from the promotion exercise, included Dr. Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Dr. Salihu Mohammed Niwuro, Professor of Political Science, Dr. Abdulmaliq Suleiman Yusuff, Professor of Crop Science, and Dr. Dickson Achimugu Musa, Professor of Biochemistry.

Stonix News reports that 11 Associate Professors have also been elevated as Readers in the recent exercise by the university Council.

Dr. Aliyu Bello Mohammed, Reader in Sociology; Dr. Musa Salihu Ewugi, Reader in Economics; Dr. Ndagi Idris, Reader in Agricultural Economics and Extension; Dr. Ibrahim Hadiza Gurusu, Reader in Animal Science; Dr. Solomon Jiya Ndache, Reader in Geography; and Dr. Olajide Muili Folaranmi, Reader in Adult Education were recipients of the exercise.

Others were Dr. Abideen Adeshina Olajede, Reader in Adult Education, Dr. Modu Ali Bwala, Reader in Agricultural Economics and Extension, Dr. Adebiyi Alani Adelakun, Reader in Adult Education, Dr. Simon Adewale Ebine, Reader in French Language, and Dr. Ndasalihu Usman Abubakar.

According to the official Facebook Page of IBBUL News, the confirmation of the promotions was made at the recent 52nd regular meeting of the Council held in the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Lapai.

The Council Chairman, Major General Idris Garba, who was represented by Professor Bashar Nuhu, while congratulating the academic staff, urged them to continue to work harder and use their new positions for the growth of the university.

Stonix News recalls that Professor Ogungbe bagged his first, second and PhD degrees in 2001, 2005 and 2012 from the University of Ibadan (UI), Ibadan, Oyo State, respectively.

Popularly called ‘Comrade’ among his classmates and admirers, amiable Prof Ogungbe joined IBBL in 2006 shortly after his second degree and has 52 publications to his credit.

Interestingly, Stonix News, on Wednesday, gathered that Prof Ogungbe has become the first alumnus of the Department of English, UI, Class 2001 to attain such feat.

President of the then Association of Students of English (ASSEN), Class 2001, UI, Mr Babatunde Oladele, popularly known as Macbeth, expressed joy over the attainment of Prof. Ogungbe.

“It’s a great feeling! Professor Ebenezer Ogungbe has been a focused, dogged and quiet achiever since our undergraduate days.

“So, it’s not really a surprise he has attained this professorial feat at what one may consider a young age in this part of the world.

“I wish him all the best and many more wins in the years ahead!,” the ace entrepreneur and life coach, quipped.

Congratulating his bosom friend and former classmate, Dr Adesina Sunday of the Department of English, UI, whose professorial attainment is also imminent, described Prof Ogungbe as a humble and intelligent scholar. 

Hear him: “Prof. Seun Ogungbe, whom I often call Comrade, is a brilliant and thorough scholar. He is quite humble and respectful. He is a brother and friend, whom I have known since 1997. 

“His elevation to the rank of professor is well deserved. He has many and rich publications in grammar and discourse analysis. 

“Comrade is an amiable person who carries himself with dignity. Engage him in any discussion and you will encounter an intelligent scholar.
