TWENTY-FOUR hours to Democracy Day, suspected terrorists have abducted no fewer than 40 GSM operators said to be returning from a wedding of one of them in Zamfara State.
This was disclosed by the Zamfara State Union of Communication, adding that the 40 embers were kidnapped on Saturday along Sokoto – Gusau highway.
Addressing journalists on Sunday at a press conference in Gusau, Publicity Secretary of the union, Mallam Ashiru Shaibu Zurmi, said that the incident occurred when members were returning to Gusau after attending the wedding ceremony of one of their members in Sokoto .
He, however, added that 11 of the victims had luckily escaped with various degrees of injuries, while over 30 were still in captivity.
He, therefore, appealed to both the state and federal governments to help save the lives of the victims.
“All the victims are able youths whose daily contributions to the economy are unmeasurable.
“We all are witnesses to the huge resources committed during the recent party primaries by both arms of government, thus we are appealing for similar commitment to save the lives of these youths,” he pleaded.
Mallam Zurmi further noted that each of the victims has a minimum of 10 employees working under them.
