A 37-year-old grandmother has been arrested for alleged torture and eventual murder of her grandchild in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria.
She was arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The suspect, identified as Udeogu Chinelowas, was, after her arrest, handed over to the police.
She was accused of allegedly abusing, killing and dumping the remains of the victim, a girl, in a bush on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.
Stonix News gathered that she went back to the primary school the deceased was attending to get a refund of the school fees she had earlier paid when she ran out of luck.
It was after she was arrested that she disclosed that the victim had died and the body dumped in the bush around Hezekiah Dike Crescent, Awka, wrapped in a nylon bag.
The suspect, thereafter, led the operatives of NAPTIP to the scene where she disposed the body of the victim whom she claimed to be her granddaughter was.
On arriving the scene, the suspect said the victim had died on September 29, while the body was already decomposing.
The suspect was immediately handed over to the police by NAPTIP, Anambra State Command, to investigate the death of the victim.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ikenga Tochukwu said investigation was ongoing.
