Osinbajo Condemns Owo Church Attack, Says Nigeria Will Not Be Cowered

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has condemned the Sunday attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, saying Nigeria will not be cowered by terrorism.

In a statement on his official Facebook page, the presidential aspirant condoned with the victims and families of the attack.

“I join President Muhammadu Buhari to condemn in strongest terms, the atrocious killing of worshippers Sunday at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-Luwa Street, Owo Kingdom, in Ondo State.

“This saddens inexplicably, and I mourn the dead from this very unfortunate event.

“Also, my thoughts and my prayers go to the victims and their families, the Catholic Church, and the government of Ondo State.

“We will not cower to the whims of elements who lurk in darkness to unleash inconceivable wickedness on our citizens.

“We will keep standing against evil and Nigeria will win.

“As the President has charged, emergency agencies are to swing into action to bring succour to the wounded.

“We stand in utter solidarity with the people of Owo and Ondo State in this terrible moment,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied stepping down from the primary scheduled for June 6-8.

Richard Akinnola, Chairman, PYO Media Council, in a statement on Sunday, urged delegates and other Nigerians to disregard the fictitious social publications.

“The PYO Presidential Campaign Council welcomes our distinguished delegates from across the country to Abuja for our presidential primaries.

“As you settle down in Abuja, we implore you to kindly disregard various fake news making the rounds that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has stepped down.

“The purveyors of these fake news are afraid of the huge political support base of Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

“Please note that no such action is being contemplated. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is the leading aspirant, as attested to by the report of the party’s screening committee.

“He is ready for the primaries and very sure of his victory,” Akinnola assured.
