Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has lauded Oluwatobi Amusan on her latest feat of winning the women’ 100m hurdles at the just concluded World Athletics Championships.
This is just as the athlete quipped in her Facebook page too that her win came as a result of trusting God and believing in her coach.
In his congratulatory post on his verified Facebook page, Osinbajo described the win as a great stunt that perfectly described the irrepressible Nigerian spirit of coming out triumphantly.
Stonix News had earlier reported that Oluwatobi won the World Athletics Championship gold medal with 12.06s at Eugene, Oregon on Monday, July 25, 2022.
Professor Osinbajo also lauded Ese Brume, who won a silver medal in Long Jump with a jump of 7.02m.
“Congratulations Oluwatobi Amusan for winning the women’s 100m hurdles gold at the World Athletics Championship, setting a new world record twice in the semifinal and final of the event to become Nigeria’s first World Champion.
“This is such a great feat that perfectly exemplifies the irrepressible Nigerian spirit to chase and achieve triumph in the most outstanding manner.
“Tobi’s legendary example, just like that of @esebrume, who also won Silver at the High Jump event, offers timeless inspiration to our young people today and in the upcoming generations to achieve greatness in their chosen endeavours.
“For this, I am glad; Again, congratulations to Tobi and the entire members of Team Nigeria for displaying grit and putting up an excellent showing on the global stage,” he posted.
Speaking, Tobi Amusan said that her win came as a result of her absolute trust in God and believing in her coach.
“I never doubted God. I believed in my Coach, my training program and I knew it’s MY TIME and MY TURN.
“On the Adidas Wall of Dreams prior to the race, I wrote in faith, “Incoming World Record holder & World Champion.” I’m glad it’s now a reality,” she said.
Amusan’s victory has elicited several postive reactions from across the globe as she emerged the first ever Nigerian athlete to pick a gold and as well break a world record in the championship’s 39 years of existence.
