According to the prosecutor, Supol Osuolale Yomi, the defendant stopped the minor on the street, claimed to be her father’s brother, and asked her to accompany him to his residence to collect something.

Once inside, the court heard, he raped her.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Lekan’s arrest and subsequent charge.

The offence is said to contravene Section 31 of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State, 2021, which carries a sentence of several years’ imprisonment.

The magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, did not take the defendant’s plea after the prosecutor requested that the case be referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The court ordered Lekan to remain on remand pending the outcome of that advice.

The case has been adjourned until 24th June 2026 for mention, when the DPP’s report is expected to determine whether the matter will be transferred to the High Court due to jurisdictional issues.
