STUDENT associations in Osun State have passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing his administration of pursuing policies they described as anti-student and detrimental to welfare in state-owned tertiary institutions.
The decision was taken by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun State, in collaboration with the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS), who described the Adeleke administration as one of the most disappointing governments for students in the history of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of NANS, JCC, Osun State, Comrade Ibrahim Alabi, said students across Osun State–owned institutions have been burdened with a 200 per cent increase in tuition fees, a development he noted has placed higher education beyond the reach of children from low- and middle-income families.
He also raised concerns over decaying infrastructure, citing the abandonment of major student routes, particularly the Iree–Ada Road, which he described as a “death trap”. According to him, several projects promised by the state government, including the construction of internal campus roads, have remained unexecuted.
“The leadership of NANS JCC, Osun State, in collaboration with NAOSS, unequivocally condemns the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing it as one of the most anti-student and disappointing governments in the history of Osun State,” Alabi said.
He accused the government of empty promises, chronic delays, neglect of students’ welfare and the politicisation of student issues, adding that no functional bursary scheme or welfare structure exists for students in the state.
Alabi further alleged that the level of infrastructural decay in state-owned institutions is alarming, citing the School of Health, Ilesa, which he said lacks motorable or tiled roads.
He also claimed that while students’ union bodies receive no mobility or operational support, they are repeatedly targeted as sources of revenue.
The student leaders also criticised the alleged deployment of over 100 armed soldiers to disperse unarmed students during a recent protest, describing it as an abuse of state power.
They noted that a one-week ultimatum earlier promised by the governor to address students’ concerns had elapsed without any tangible action.
Declaring that students’ patience had run out, the associations said they would continue to pursue lawful and democratic means to demand accountability from the state government.
“Consequently, the leadership of all student structures in Osun State, from local unions to national bodies, including all SUG presidents, indigenous chapter presidents, NANS, NAOSS and sister associations, hereby passes a vote of no confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke,” the statement said.

The students warned that they remain united and vigilant, adding that their grievances would not be forgotten as the state approaches the 2026 political season.
