FAST becoming a dangerous pastime in some parts of Nigeria, a mob of commercial motorcyclists, on Sunday afternoon, clubbed an alleged thief to death and set fire on the body in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occurred at about 1:00p.m at Barika Junction on Sunday when Christian faithful were returning home from worship services in their various churches.
Stonix News reports that Barika Junction is along popular UI – Ojoo road close to UI Second gate.
Scores of commercial motorcyclists popularly called Okada, were seen in groups with their motorcyclists parked by the road sides.
Between 1:30p.m and 2:00p.m, a white police van with plain clothes cops emerged at the scene just as the crowd which had gathered discussing the incident dispersed like flies.
When Stonix News got to the scene, the dying and burning human body was seen lying on the road median.
A witness said the victim, believed to be a northerner, was allegedly caught with a stolen motorcycle and decided to mete out jungle justice on him.
The scene of the incident was crowded sympathisers and commercial motorcyclists who were all in solidarity to kill and roast the victim.
The police cops believed to have been deployed from Sango Police Station were seen harassing onlookers who were attempting to take photos of the burning body.
One of them got hold of a bucket of water and was seen pouring it on the body.
Some onlookers were heard saying the body was still making some movements, a sign that life might still be in him.
Another witness told our reporter that the group of commercial motorcyclists, who nabbed and carried out the jungle justice, waited to ensure that the victim breathed his last before fleeing the scene.
No official statement from the Oyo State Police Command has been sighted as of the time of filing the report.
The incident has, again, underscored the evil associated with jungle justice and the need for security agencies and government to evolve means of stemming the tide in society.
