THE Nigeria Police Force has formally charged Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh with assault following an investigation into an alleged incident involving a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, on the night of 27 October 2024.
Ikwechegh was arraigned at the Kuje Magistrates’ Court on charges of “Abuse of Office, Criminal Intimidation, and Criminal Force and Assault,” based on Sections 397(b) and 265 of the Penal Code Act.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, through ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, stated that a thorough investigation was conducted to ensure accountability.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served,” Egbetokun said in the press statement on 30 October signed by Adejobi, adding: “No one is above the law.”
According to police reports, the incident allegedly occurred when Ikwechegh reportedly confronted Abuwatseya during a disagreement, resulting in physical intimidation and assault.
The police’s Special Investigation Unit collaborated with the Legal Section to expedite the case and bring it before the court.
