THE Nigeria Police Force has recovered N10 Million Naira allegedly extorted by three officers of the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters, Yenagoa, following an investigation led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The officers—identified as ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, and Inspector Adiewere Collins—are accused of illegally obtaining the funds from a group of young Nigerians, according to a statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D.

The Inspector-General, known for his strict stance on police accountability, according to Adejobi, expressed grave disapproval of the incident.

He reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct or abuse of power by its personnel.

He emphasised that every case of extortion is taken seriously and will be investigated thoroughly to ensure justice is served.

Following the recovery of the funds, the officers involved have been detained and are undergoing an orderly room trial, a disciplinary measure within the Force.

The IGP assured the public that any officer found culpable of corruption would face severe consequences, regardless of rank, as a means of deterring similar actions and preserving the integrity of the Force.

The IGP also encouraged members of the public to report any incidents of police misconduct through established helplines and social media channels, including +2347056792065, +2349133333785, +2349133333786, @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.

Citizens may also file complaints via email at pressforabuja@police.gov.ng or through the police website at www.npf.gov.ng.

In addition to disciplinary measures, the IGP announced a rescheduled workshop on child protection and care, now set for Monday, November 11, 2024, for heads of police investigative units.

This training aims to improve officers’ skills in handling cases involving vulnerable individuals, particularly children, while emphasising ethical standards and transparency.

The Inspector-General concluded by reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to fostering professionalism and restoring public confidence through consistent accountability, ethical behaviour, and a strengthened child-friendly policing system.
