THE Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, vowing not to tolerate any efforts to destabilise the state government.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, declared the APC would do everything possible to ensure its own administration in the state is not undermined by internal strife.
He cautioned that the party would not stay silent while “an obvious hangover” from conflicts within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resurfaces within APC ranks.
The party directly appealed to its members in the Rivers State House of Assembly to halt the impeachment proceedings.
It warned that continuing would “drag the image of our great party through the mud” and stifle progress in the state.
The statement sought to neutralise the budget issue at the heart of the latest tensions.
Nwauju reminded lawmakers that a budget approved for 2025 is valid for one year, and Governor Fubara may elect not to present a supplementary budget if he is satisfied with it.
He further noted that the constitution permits a governor a six-month spending window into a new fiscal year.
While acknowledging the legislature’s independent role and constitutional duty of checks and balances, the APC’s position was unequivocal: “We solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our Governor and his deputy.”

The statement concluded with a call for democratic principles over political machinations, asserting, “Let our state remain a democracy and not a politicocracy!!”
It indicated that a meeting of the feuding parties would soon be convened to resolve the disagreements.
