NO fewer than 40 persons have lost their lives and several others injured in a fatal bus crash in central Senegal, as revealed by the country’s president on Sunday.
According to a tweet from President Macky Sall, the tragic incident happened in Gnivy village: the Kaffrine region of the country.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic road accident today in Gniby causing 40 deaths and many serious injuries.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the president tweeted.
Stonix News gathered that the crash occurred when the driver of a public bus lost control after a tire suddenly punctured while in motion on a highway; the bus veered across the road, colliding with another public bus coming from the opposite direction.
The impact left 40 dead and 78 others seriously injured.
President Macky Sall immediately declared three days of mourning after his tweet and said he will hold an inter-ministerial council to discuss road safety measures.
