Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

IN what appears as an assassination, gunmen have invaded staff quarters of the University of Ibadan (UI) killing one Mr Vincent Odinko, an official of National Examination Council (NEC).

A source told The Nation that the sad incident happened last Friday night.

The night marauders reportedly broke into the Boys Quarters (BQ) of a staff building where the man lived with his family.

Mr Odinko worked in the SSCE Internal Unit, Ibadan branch of NECO until his gruesome murder.

Amid sketchy details, the deceased was said to be working on his laptop in the night when the armed bandits broke into his home.

It was further learnt that the robbers took away the laptop and mobile phones of the occupants.

The wife is said to be a member of staff of the university.

Reacting to the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, said the command was already investigation tracking down Odinko’s killers.

A member of the university community who spoke to The Nation in confidence described the development as “extremely disturbing.”

The resident wondered why an institution with perimeter fencing, good security architecture and personnel could be experiencing security breaches that even led to killing.
