Security Measures: Delta Grants Final Two Weeks Grace To Keke, Okada Riders

The Delta State Government has issued a fresh two-week ultimatum to all commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke) riders in the state to comply with ongoing security profiling measures by acquiring the approved identification materials.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Information on Sunday, riders are expected to obtain government-approved aprons, stickers, emblems and rider’s cards at a subsidised cost of ₦7,500.

These items are to be purchased through the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators’ Association (COMTOA) offices located across Delta State.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to enhance public safety and regulate the commercial transport sector through proper identification and tracking.

The grace period, which began on 4 August, will lapse on 18 August 2025. From that date, enforcement teams comprising Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs), security agents, and the COMTOA Task Force will commence a statewide crackdown on defaulters.

Motorcycles and tricycles found to be operating without the required identification items risk being impounded.

The directive, signed by Harold Ojji, Director of Public Communication and Functioning Permanent Secretary, emphasised that this is the final opportunity for commercial riders to regularise their operations.

Residents and transport operators are advised to take note and comply accordingly to avoid penalties.
