‘A Legacy of Chains’: Pastor Enenche Slams Praise For Buhari, Calls It National Spell

IN a fiery sermon delivered at the International Gospel Centre in Abuja, Pastor Dr Paul Enenche, launched a blistering attack on former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, denouncing the glowing tributes being paid to him as evidence of deep national dysfunction and spiritual bondage.

Labeling Buhari as “one of the most wicked persons that ever ruled any country in the world,” Enenche cited the rampant insecurity, mass killings, and widespread suffering that characterised the former leader’s tenure.

“There is a blanket of evil, a blanket of sorcery, a blanket of the occult that has blanketed our nation,” the pastor declared, lamenting a disturbing national tolerance for hardship. “It is a spell of tolerance of suffering, a spell of patience with captivity—being in love with your chains.”

He recounted conversations with a senior church leader who described the dire conditions facing many Nigerians: families unable to afford rent, school fees, or food. According to Enenche, these realities point to a country drowning in hopelessness, while its citizens remain eerily silent.

“It’s uncountable,” he said. “People line up after service for help. We’re feeding them, covering medical bills—yet the land stays quiet.”

Directing sharp criticism at the nation’s leaders, he accused them of mocking the suffering masses and showing a “practically insensitive” approach to governance. “Let poor people breathe,” he added with scathing sarcasm.

Enenche reserved his harshest words for those he said continue to glorify Buhari in death.

“One of the most wicked persons that ever ruled any country in the world died, and people are praising him,” he said, referencing the 2014 deaths of youth corps members in Bauchi as an example of the bloodshed under Buhari’s watch. “If not for the kind of country this is, the person deserves a burial in an evil forest.”

He further accused the former president of being a “patron of terrorist organisations” and condemned the devastation of entire communities during his regime.

The sermon concluded with a prayerful plea: “Whatever spell it is, we ask God to break it. Let those misgoverning and misruling at every level know that none will see the celebration in their deaths.”

Pastor Enenche’s remarks have reignited fierce debate over Buhari’s controversial legacy, sparking sharp responses across both political and religious circles.
