Tantita and the Ugborikoko Police Station – A New Model for Security-Driven Development

By Ebenezer Adurokiya

THE inauguration of the modern Divisional Police Station in Ugborikoko, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, marks a watershed moment in public-private partnership for national security. At the heart of this milestone stands Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL) (chaired by inimitable High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo), a private security firm whose contributions continue to redefine corporate social responsibility and security infrastructure in Nigeria.

Reinforcing Security Through Infrastructure

Constructed and fully equipped by TSSNL, the state-of-the-art Ugborikoko Police Station symbolises a deep commitment to peace, stability, and development. The facility is more than a functional building; it represents an ambitious vision where private sector actors actively shape national security outcomes.

Engr. Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of TSSNL, underscored this vision during the commissioning ceremony, noting that the police station is “a symbol of shared commitment to safety, security, and progress.” His remarks reflect TSSNL’s broader philosophy that “no society can thrive without peace and security.”

Indeed, the new police division is equipped with comprehensive infrastructure: two operational Hilux vehicles, a 30kVA soundproof generator, a parallel 30kVA solar system, CCTV surveillance, computer systems, air conditioning, fully furnished conference and interrogation rooms, and more. These investments directly enhance the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in the area.

A Boost for Community Confidence and National Policing

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, represented by AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, praised Tantita’s initiative as a landmark contribution. “This facility is not just where officers will work,” he said. “It will be a hub for positive engagement between the police and the people — a cornerstone for building safer communities.”

By bridging the gap between communities and law enforcement, TSSNL has helped restore public trust in security institutions — a trust essential for effective policing and conflict resolution.

Corporate Social Responsibility That Transcends Profit

The impact of Tantita’s gesture extends far beyond security. According to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by Dr Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, “Tantita has the DNA of the enterprise of the future… You are not just a company that chases profit, you are a company that wishes your neighbours as good as yourself.”

This praise is not unfounded. TSSNL has been credited with numerous community development initiatives, including roads and drainage systems in areas unrelated to its core operations. This all-encompassing approach to CSR positions Tantita as a model enterprise in Nigeria’s oil and security sectors.

Driving Economic Recovery Through Pipeline Security

Beyond physical infrastructure, TSSNL has made a measurable impact on Nigeria’s economic stability. By securing oil pipelines and curbing crude oil theft since August 2022, the company has helped boost national production from under 700,000 barrels per day to 1.7 million. “There’s potential to hit 2 million barrels per day by year’s end,” Pondi revealed — a feat with far-reaching implications for revenue generation and foreign investment.

A Call for Replication and Support

Pondi’s call for greater stakeholder involvement — from state governors to oil operators — highlights the need for shared responsibility in national security. “Better security leads to better productivity, and that in turn drives infrastructural development like the one we see today,” he asserted.

Governor Oborevwori echoed this sentiment, urging Tantita to “extend its generosity to other parts of the state,” thereby institutionalising the Ugborikoko model as a scalable blueprint for regional and national development.

Conclusion: A Beacon of What Is Possible

The commissioning of the Ugborikoko Police Station is not merely the handover of a building — it is the manifestation of a powerful idea: that collaboration between government and forward-thinking private enterprises can bring about lasting change.
