A transformer explosion has a pastor and killed three other persons including one Mrs Patrick and her daughter in the Yaunde Tunfure axis of Gombe State.
According to reports, the explosion, which saw to the demise of Pastor Solomon of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, also inflicted serious injuries on 10 other persons.
An eyewitness (names withheld) confirmed that the transformer explosion was caused by the heavy wind which blew the high tension cable to have contact with the service line that supplies power to the transformer.
Speaking on the death of the mother and daughter, some locals said that Mrs Patrick woke up following the electric spark to switch off her refrigerator, but was electrocuted in the process.
The daughter who made an attempt to touch her lifeless mother on the floor was also electrocuted that very night.
Meanwhile, a similar incident also led to the killing of a man within the neighbourhood when he tried to switch off his electrical gadgets.
ASP Mahid Mu’azu, the police spokesperson in Gombe State, attested that three persons were confirmed dead at the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.
“Two of them are women and one man. We are still investigating the cause of the incident, but the interim report said it was due to a power surge,” he said.
However, the governor of the state, Muhammadu Yahaya, has paid a condolence visit to the families of the victims and donated N1.5 million to the affected families.
The governor of the state Muhammadu Yahaya, thereafter, instructed Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) to immediately look into the remote and immediate causes of the incident.
