Travellers Beat, Stone Police Woman To Death In Rivers

Agorehmi Bright, Reporting

IRATE travellers have reportedly beaten and stoned a policewoman, identified as Christian Erekere, to death, in Rivers State.

The ugly incident took place on April 25 while, Erekere from the Bori Police Division, was on duty in front of Taabaa Police Station.

However, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command said its men have arrested 16 suspects in connection with the murder of the female inspector.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the State Police Command, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, said trouble started when a private vehicle was stopped by policemen for a routine search.

Iringe-Koko said the occupants became angry after the check, refusing to leave, as they blocked the road, alleging that the female inspector had recorded their actions with her phone.

In attempting to seize Inspector Christian Erekere’s phone forcefully, they hurled stones and beat her to death.

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of the 16 persons in connection with the tragic killing of Inspector Erekere.
