By SOMETIME ago, I wrote about a student who, in the heat of excitement, exposed his backside during his hostel’s hall week at the University of Ibadan. He was in his first year (100 level) at the time.
When he reached his final year (400 level), he contested for the post of Students’ Union President but lost; some students had unearthed pictures of his thoughtless act from his first year.
Last week, I had to counsel a student who cheated during an examination. I made the student understand that what they do now will have a significant impact on their future.
Dear students, you have a bright future ahead of you; do not destroy it. Before you take any action, think about the consequences both now and later.
Silly things done in the heat of excitement have brought down great men and women.
Many people lost their positions due to foolish mistakes they made in their youth.
Some lost careers they had built for many years because certain indiscretions from their youth were uncovered.
Dear young man, while you are having fun, do not gamble away your future.
Dear young lady, while you are enjoying yourself, do not sacrifice your destiny.
There is more to your life than the present. The best part of your life lies ahead. What you do now will surely affect that beautiful future you are dreaming of.
With your own hand, you can destroy that future. You can also build that future with your own hand. The ball is in your court.
Make your choice.
There are two options before you; choose wisely.
