LAKE Retba, also known as Lac Rose, is a unique lake located in Senegal, West Africa, near the capital city of Dakar.

What makes Lake Retba so distinctive is its striking pink color, which is caused by high concentrations of salt in the water, as well as a type of algae that thrives in the salty environment.

The lake’s pink color is most vivid during the dry season when the water evaporates and the salt content becomes even more concentrated.

The lake’s color can vary from a light pink to a deep purple, depending on the time of year and the weather conditions.
Lake Retba is a popular tourist destination, known for its natural beauty and the unique experience of swimming in its pink waters.

The high salt content of the lake also makes it easy for people to float effortlessly on the surface, similar to the experience of floating in the Dead Sea.

In addition to tourism, Lake Retba is also an important source of salt for the local economy. Salt collectors known as “salt miners” harvest salt from the lake using traditional methods, which have been passed down through generations.
