It was a meeting of icons at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, when scholars in the field of Phonetics and Phonology in Nigeria converged physically for the first time.

The Redeemer’s University (RUN), in the ancient city of Ede was chosen as the venue of the first physical conference of Association of Phoneticians and Phonologists in Nigeria (APPN).
The international conference which lasted for four days commenced on Monday, 4th April and ended on Thursday, 7th April, 2022.

Scholars from various universities across Nigeria attended the conference. Participants were excited to see icons, whom they had only read about, physically present at the conference.

Part of the highlights of the conference was the workshop organised for primary and secondary school teachers who teach Phonics and Oral English.

The workshop, ably chaired by one of the bigwigs in the field, Prof Adenike Akinjobi, took the teachers through the nitty gritty of Phonics and Oral English teaching.
The height of the events was the annual general meeting of the APPN and elections held on Wednesday 6th April, 2022.

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Taiwo Soneye from Obafemi Awolowo University emerged as the president of the association while Prof Adenike Akinjobi from University of Ibadan was unanimously elected as the vice president.
Prof. C. U. Ugorji from University of Benin emerged as the editor-in-chief; Dr A. B. Sunday from University of Ibadan was elected as the editor. The assistant editors are Dr Juliana Akindele and Dr Amos Agboyinu.
