Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, will be in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Wednesday December 22, 2021.
Courtesy of RCCG Region 21, the reverred cleric will be ministering at 7:00a.m at Community Grammar School, Lalupon, Ibadan, Oyo State to commence the December 2021 annual Go-A-Fishing with the theme: ‘The Indescribable Gift.’
Pastor Adeboye, fondly called Daddy GO, has, however, proffered a way out of gluttony especially in this Yuletide season.
Stonix News reports that gluttony means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, and it is viewed among Christians as a sin as contained in the scriptures.
Since Christmas and New Year seasons are often the time much abundant victuals and drinks appear to be available to gulp in homes, the Holiness Preacher, who had earlier warned against intake of alcohol in Stonix News‘ recent publication, admonished against excessive obsession with food, but proffered a way out.
Counseling Christians in the Open Heavens of Tuesday December 21, 2021, with the theme: ‘Gluttony is Not a Christian Virtue,’ and the Bible passage from Proverbs 23:1-8, the reverred cleric said when tempted, those who have large appetite for food should resist it.
“Indeed, Proverbs 23:2 says that if you know that you have a large appetite and like to eat, when you feel tempted to succumb to gluttony, hold yourself back as though someone were pointing a knife at your neck to restrain you,” he advised.
He urged Christians to eschew gluttony by taking a cue from biblical Daniel and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who avoided the king’s delicacy in order not to ruin their destiny like Esau.
“While it is true that the Bible describes alcohol as a mocker, it is not the only thing that can arouse a deadly appetite; food can and has done great havoc to the destinies of many people in history.
“According to Daniel 1:8, they purposed in their hearts not to allow themselves to be carried away by the delicacies of the king so that they would not forget where they were coming from and where they were going.
“It takes self-discipline not to be a glutton, especially in the time of need. You should not allow your enemies to know when you are hungry or else, they can seize the opportunity to attack you,” the 79-year-old renowned Shepherd noted.
