A 13-year-old boy discovered his mother had been fatally stabbed inside their southwest Houston apartment, according to police.
The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday at an apartment complex located off Braeswood near Braeburn Glen.
Authorities said the boy had gone to the store and returned to find the front door locked. He entered the home through the back door, where he found his mother, believed to be in her early 40s, dead. He immediately ran to a nearby friend’s residence to seek help.
Responding officers confirmed that the woman had been stabbed to death. Her boyfriend, a man in his early 30s who lived with her, was not present when police arrived at the scene.
According to investigators, the boyfriend later called 911 and said he wanted to surrender at the entrance of the apartment complex.
Police noted that the couple had a history of an on-and-off relationship.
Authorities clarified that the woman’s son is not biologically related to the suspect. Homicide detectives continue to investigate the case.
