JUST IN: Poly Ibadan Boils! Students Say No To New Name

STUDENTS of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have taken to the streets in protest against Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent announcement to rename the institution after the late icon, Omololu Olunloyo.

The governor made the announcement on Thursday, 26th June 2025.

Early this morning, around 7:30am, students gathered at the school’s main gate, chanting slogans and rejecting the proposed name change. Some held placards bearing messages such as “We don’t want Omololu.”

The protest led to a blockade of the main road along Sango–Eleyele axis, disrupting vehicular movement.

Passengers in commercial vehicles were forced to alight and continue their journeys on foot or find alternative means of transport at nearby parks.

Police officers were observed around the area with patrol vehicles stationed nearby to maintain order.

As of the time of filing this report, no incident of violence had been recorded.
