Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, was reportedly killed in a car accident in Spain in the early hours of today, Thursday, July 3.

Stonix News reliably gathered that the fatal crash took place near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria, on the A-52 motorway.

Local media also confirmed that Jota’s brother, André Silva, 26, was among those killed in the incident. The car they were in went off the road and caught fire after the impact.

The 28-year-old Portuguese international was a key part of Liverpool’s Premier League-winning squad last season and represented Portugal at the international level.

He had recently married Rute Cardoso just two weeks ago, and the couple shared three children.

Liverpool released an official statement that reads:

“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

“The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.

“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
