DEADLY gunmen attacks in three local government areas of Benue State have resulted in the killing of five persons and the kidnapping of a woman.
It was gathered that the gunmen attacked Agatha and Gwer West local government areas between Sunday and Monday sending five persons to their early grave and leaving multiple injured.
The residents of Ikpele Village in Agatu Local Government Area said the gunmen attacked the village on Sunday evening beheading one individual and killing two more.
After leaving Agatu Local Government Area in mourning and wailing, they stormed Gwer West LGA and killed one person, bringing the total casualties from the Sunday invasions in both LGAs to five, with several others injured.
It was also gathered that while no death was recorded in Apa Local Government Area, the armed invaders kidnapped a woman during a siege on the Otukpo-Adoka-Oweto highway, shooting someone in the leg and targeting vehicle tyres.
After all the havoc committed that Sunday, it was reported that the invaders continued their attacks on Monday along the same highway.
The Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Ochayi Alidu, confirmed the attacks and stated that efforts were underway to address the situation.
Also, a humanitarian worker, Joseph Adakole expressed concern over the escalating attacks in Idoma land, leading to casualties, property destruction, and displacement of villagers.
The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, Yakubu Ochepo, highlighted the need for enhanced security support to repel these attacks.
He described the recent invasion in Ikpele village, where armed herders from Ogumogbo attacked villagers returning home after previous assaults, resulting in fatalities, injuries, and property damage.
Efforts to obtain a comment from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Catherine Anene, regarding the incidents were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report
