A hospital’s Laboratory Scientist, Mrs. Ame Onyelo, was, on New Year’s Day, killed by a camp gas explosion while trying to heat up her soup so it doesn’t go stale before the next day.
Reports say the woman had sat down to monitor her stew which she was heating up in order to preserve it till the next day when the gas cylinder suddenly exploded.
The explosion left her with 95 per cent degree burn leading to her being rushed to Government Hospital, Abraka and then referred to Central Hospital, Warri.
Stonix News gathered Mrs. Onyelo was finally referred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City, Edo State, where she eventually gave up the ghost on Monday January 3, 2022 at about 1.30p.m.
Her demise was said to have paralysed activities on Tuesday January 4, first work day of the New Year, at the Government Hospital in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, where she was a staff.
The Medical Director (MD) of the Government Hospital, Abraka, Dr. Donald Anyoru, who spoke to Oasis Magazine, said the news of the death of Mrs Onyelo, came as a rude shock, saying they would greatly miss her.
“The management visited the family of the deceased in Abraka today. She was a nice woman, very cooperative and a peacemaker.
“I have been here for about a year now and I can say that she is one of the few persons that you can discuss issues with.
“We are sad. ‘Today work naw get head ooo.’ We were supposed to share rice today, but we could not.
“Like the husband said, we have decided to leave this issue to God,” he lamented.
The MD said efforts were on to inform the Hospital Management Board on her passing.
