Police Nab Five Fake Vigilante Gang In Anambra Armed Robbery Crackdown

IN a decisive move to ensure safe Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements, leading to the arrest of a five-man gang impersonating vigilante operatives in the state capital, Awka.

The arrests were made by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu.

The operation, part of an ongoing investigation into criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, saw the suspects apprehended at Ring Road in Nibo, Awka.

Police recovered significant evidence from the scene, including two pump-action guns, five live cartridges, an ash-coloured shuttle bus, face masks, a vehicle registration plate, and other incriminating items.

The arrested suspects, all male, have been identified as Solomon Saddah, Okolocha George Kaosisochukwu, John Obi Ogwaju, Chukwuemeka Chisom Ikenwa, and Eze Obinna Joshua.

During interrogation, the men reportedly admitted their involvement in criminal activities.

They confessed to using the shuttle bus and posing as vigilante personnel as a cover to carry out robberies.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, “They are currently cooperating with the Police and providing information that will assist in uncovering other criminal collaborators and networks.”

Ikenga reiterated the Command’s commitment, stating, “The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property and urges residents to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information.”

He pledged that further updates on the case would be provided once the investigation is concluded.
