WARRI – The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Deltans to renew their support for the party following a landmark Supreme Court judgment that finally settles the party’s long-running leadership crisis.
In a statement issued today, 30th April 2026, the party hailed the apex court’s decision to uphold the Court of Appeal ruling which nullified the so-called ‘Ibandon Convention’, describing it as a triumph of the rule of law over the “court of public opinion”.
Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, Publicity Secretary of the PDP Delta State Chapter, said the judgment has laid all leadership disputes to rest and cleared the way for a full-scale political repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Fellow Deltans, the PDP is alive, stronger and better than ever before. We are ready to reclaim our mandates through the ballots come 2027,” Chief Oturubo said.
The party appealed to the people of Delta State to renew their “social contract” with the PDP, insisting that it remains the only political platform that has delivered true democracy and the dividends of good governance to the state.
“Under our governments, democracy thrives and the people reaped the dividends of democracy. PDP is ready once again to provide good governance to the now beleaguered Deltans. We have never disappointed the electorate, and 2027 will not be different,” the statement read.
In a significant olive branch, the PDP leadership urged former members who had backed the other faction to return to the fold, promising to be “magnanimous in victory”.
“We plead with you to join us for the journey ahead. The PDP remains your home, and your interests will surely be secured. This party, being the only truly democratic platform in the country, will not treat her members like political orphans,” Chief Oturubo added.
The party also extended hearty congratulations to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, praising their resilience in the face of prolonged legal battles.
“Your victory is a clear testimony that those who operate on the side of the law will surely win the race, no matter the challenges. This victory reinforces Nigerians’ faith in our dear party,” the statement concluded.
Political analysts say the Supreme Court ruling effectively ends months of uncertainty within the Delta PDP, but warn that rebuilding internal trust ahead of 2027 will be a formidable task for the party leadership.
