A middle-aged man, simply identified as Daniel (a.k.a Malaysia) was, late night of Monday, burnt to death in his apartment in Delta after crying fruitlessly for help.
The incident happened at Omene Road, Sapele, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
He had cried for help immediately the fire engulfed his abode.
Neighbours who witnessed the incident said they could not help because Malaysia was already encircled in the inferno when they got to the house.
He breathed his last as he was choked in the inferno before help could reach him.
One of the neighbours said being often drunk, Malaysia, who has a wife and a child, was thought to be in his usual elements when they heard him crying for help.
The wife and kid were not with him when the tragedy struck.
Another neighbour simply identified as Sammy, said he heard the cry of Daniel for help but before he could reach him, the fire had completely engulfed the building.
Operatives of the Delta State Fire Service could not also help as the building is said to be located in a swampy area and thus inaccessible
As of the time of filing the report, the charred remains of Daniel, said to be easygoing, had been conveyed in a mat from the scene and police approval for burial being awaited by family members.
Operatives of the fire service would not speak when approached.
Stonix News, however, gathered that the fire must have been ignited by a candle that was lit after a public power outage.
