A boy, Ade Segun, is cooling his feet in police cell after arranging for his own kidnap in order to defraud his parents of N2 million.
Segun reportedly planned his kidnap with his friends, Precious and Nonso, to swindle his parents of the said amount.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle on Friday.
Edafe said the 17-year-old suspect’s parents had reported the case at one of the police stations in Warri, where one of the female officers was detailed to play along in paying the ransom.
It was in the process of paying the ransom that undercover police operatives swooped on the one sent to pick the ransom and arrested him and the two others.
“The suspect, Ade Segun, planned his own kidnap alongside two of his friends, Precious and Nonso, they called Ade’s parents and demanded the sum of #2,000,000.
“The parents reported at the police station in Warri, where a woman police played along, pretending to pay the ransom money.
“When the undercover policemen got to the location, they laid ambush and one of them, Precious, came to pick the money.
“He was rounded up and arrested. He took them to the hideout where Ade and his other friend were arrested and confessed that it was all planned,” DSP Edafe narrated.
Stonix News reports that the now-lucrative business of kidnap has seen a surge in the venture as many young men with craze for sudden wealth now take to it.
