Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has denied creating the Directorate of Politics and Governance to galvanise support for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as being bandied around by some fifth columnists.
Stonix News had reported a leaked internal memo addressed to regional and provincial pastors of the mission directing them to replicate the directorate at other levels.
The memo had stated the objective of the directorate as to ”coordinate the engagement of our people who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilize support for them.”
Stonix News reports that as pre-election campaigns continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2023 general elections, VP Osinbajo has not come out to clear the air on whether he would contest for president or not.
RCCG spokesperson, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, has, however, debunked the insinuation that the directorate was created to enhance Osinbajo’s chances.
He said the directive had existed long ago and was targeting at getting people involved in politics.
“There is nothing connecting Osinbajo with the directorate; RCCG has been mobilising, creating political awareness long since transition from military to civil rule.
“RCCG has made it a policy to educate its members on political education – get voter cards, no violence.
“The directorate has nothing to do with Osinbajo or anybody. I don’t know why people are linking something the church has been doing which every organisation should be doing to him,” he told The Punch.
