A soldier was on Saturday feared dead after a Toyota Hilux patrol van used to monitor Saturday’s poll crashed while chasing suspected hoodlums spoiling to distrupt collation of results at the Ogori Magongo Local Government Area Election Collation Centre.
This is just as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ogori Magongo seat at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mr Bode Ogunmola, has been declared winner in the last Saturday state Houses of Assembly election.
Declaring the result at the local government collation center, the Returning Officer for the election, Dr Ekundayo Mejabi, said Mr Ogunmola of the PDP scored a total of 2,910 to beat his closest rival, Major Fimihan Akerejola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled a total of 2,163 votes.
Mejabi said Mr Ogunmola, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, was returned elected.
Stonix News, however, gathered that the Toyota Hilux van conveying military personnels for the election monitoring, crashed along the Ogori-Magongo road.
Besides a soldier believed to have reportedly died on the spot in the road crash, a witness said others soldiers, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were taken have been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
No official statement has emerged from the military authorities as regards the incident.
