Fierce Gun-Duel Claims Cop As Shaibu, Okpebholo Return To Benin


A fierce gun-duel has claimed a police cop and two others critically injured as reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu arrived Benin in company of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo on Thursday.

Stonix News gathered that suspected hoodlums attacked the entourage of Shaibu which includes former member of the House of Representatives, Ms. Omosede Igbinedion and other top politicians along Miracle Centre, Church of God Mission.

Recall that Mr Shaibu was reinstated in a judgement by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday

The judge had voided the April 14 impeachment by 18 out of the 24 members of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Comrade Shaibu reportedly flew in a chartered aircraft along with Mr Okpebholo who was also reportedly shot and now receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Funso Adegboye, was on hand to welcome Comrade Shaibu at the airport, where scores of supporters were said to have gathered.

Sources said sporadic gunshots rented the air from an unmarked Toyota Hiace mini bus conveying the attackers who swooped on Shaibu’s entourage while driving out of the airport along the Government Reserved Area (GRA).

A statement by Mr. Godswill Inegbe, Legislative Aide To Senator Okpebholo on Media and Communication, confirmed the attack of the three mobile policemen.

According to him, the APC governorship candidate is on admission at an undisclosed hospital in Benin along with other members of his entourage who were attacked.

The Edo State Police Command has yet to react to the incident.
